Sony has announced that it is slashing the prices of all PlayStation 5 consoles in India. With the cut, the PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Disc Edition consoles will be available at the price they were launched in 2020.
Sony PlayStation 5 price cut details
Both PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Disc Edition consoles will get a price cut of Rs 5,000. At the time of writing, the digital version is listed at a price of Rs 44,990 and the regular version is listed at a price of Rs 54,990 on official Sony Center and Flipkart.
With new prices, effective from April 1, the Digital Edition can be purchased at a price of Rs 39,990, the Disc Edition will be priced at Rs 49,990. The price drop will essentially bring back the PS5 gaming consoles’ cost to the launch price before Sony hiked it late last year. In November, Sony had increased the price of its PlayStation 5 gaming consoles by up to 12.5%.
PS5 stock situation
Last year, Sony struggled to ship enough PlayStation consoles to meet the demand globally. This was due to the chip and component shortage due to COVID-19 and global instability. At CES 2023 in January, Sony announced that PS5 consoles will be much easier to purchase going forward. About 20 days after the announcement, the company said that the PS5 console shortage was over.
New PS5 games in 2023
Sony also announced that 2023 will see a new list of games, which include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4: Remake and Street Fighter 6, as well as upcoming expansions like Destiny 2: Lightfall and Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
PlayStation VR2 launch
Earlier this year, Sony also launched PlayStation VR2 that features more than 30 games, such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village.
